1. In an economic crisis, which area should the government reduce its spending? Art, scientific research or parks and public gardens.

Usually, during an economic crisis, the government should cut the budget on certain social services or programs. If a choice has to be made, I believe that the government should reduce its spending on art, compared with scientific research or park and public gardens for the following reasons.
To begin with, among the three choices, namely art, scientific research, and public parks or gardens, art is least associated with people’s daily life. Indeed, many people today enjoy themselves in concert and galleries, and art does play an indispensible part in their life. However, this does not mean that people’s quality of life will be dramatically affected if the government cut budget on art and provide less financial support on artists. In fact, this will not directly influence people’s life at least in a short time period because people seldom need to satisfy their aesthetic needs everyday.
